Information Processing Using Hybrid Materials: From simple switches to sensors and advanced computing devices

講演要旨:
Next-generation information processing based on hybrid materials and in-materio computing approach, instead of down-scaled VLSI will be described. For example, when light is irradiated onto an organic molecule composite or a semiconductor nano-particle film, excited electrons move around in a pseudo-random internal network, resulting in a complicated pattern in the external current signal. If the light is modulated, desired data processing is realized by analyzing the signal pattern. Essential logic functions, including binary, ternary, and fuzzy, as well as synaptic behaviors useful in neurocomputing, were implemented. Aiming at reservoir computing, which attracts increasing attention recently as a new computing paradigm, we are currently pursuing the multi-disciplinary initiative ranging from chemistry to information science.
